La PépinièreAn experience of more than a century which ended in 2022
The practice of grafting, which we have practiced for more than 120 years, gives birth each year to new vine plants, the main ones of which are: Chasselas, Pinot Noir, Gamay, Gamaret, Garanoir, Merlot, and many others...
The wine nursery is a very special profession that we have been practicing for over 120 years. Its task is to take the rootstocks from the American vines, which are free from phylloxera, and to graft the grafts from the European vines using the omega system. This is how the “barbues” are born that the winegrowers will plant at home. But the success of the grafting, the solidity of which is controlled with a helping hand, is not obvious... There is on average 50% waste!
The evolution of a nursery naturally depends on that of the general grape varieties. Chardonnay, which has been widely planted, is tending to decline, unlike gamaret and garanoir, which are in high demand today.
GPS in the vineyard
We use a catfish and stake planting machine with GPS guidance. First machine in Switzerland. All you have to do is prepare soft ground, no more need to make the frame, we just need the direction of the first line then the GPS computer does the rest. The work of this machine, which of course requires sufficient surface area, is ten times faster than work by hand and ensures much better recovery, the roots not needing to be pruned short before planting.
We market around 180,000 grafted-bonded plants per year which are mainly aimed at French-speaking winegrowers and Ticino residents for Merlot.
But our role is also that of wine advisor. Through our experience we can give you tips for choosing grape varieties and clones depending on the situation of the plot.
